Clinical Study on Congestive Heart Failure


Abstract
89 Patients with congestive heart failure, admitted at the medical ward, Chungnam National University Hospital, since July 1977 to Aug. 1978, were analyzed clinically with the following results.
1. The male were 41 patients and female 48 patients with the ratio of 1 : 1. 2 and the peak age incidence was in the 5th decade.
2. Rheumatic heart disease(33. 7%), hypertensive heart failure(28. 1%) and the corpulmonale(7.9%) were the major underlying diseases of the congestive failure.
3. Dyspaea, cervical venous engorgement, hepatomegaly, moist rate, generalized edema were the main symptoms and signs of the cases observed.
4. The most predominent ECG findings were LVH(-01. 5%), auricular fibrilatior (29.2%) and premature ventricular beat(15. 7%).
5. Oz chest X-Ray, cardiomegaly with pulmonary congestion (34. 5%), cardiomegaly (28.5%) and pulmonary congestion(14. 9%) were observed.
6. The urine protein were positive in 58. 2% of the cases but the specific gravity were within normal limit in 88. 6%.
7. Serum Na and K concentration were normal in 2/3 and subnormal in 1/3 of the cases due to hemodilution.
8. Serum transaminases were abnormally increased in 3O.6% (COT) and 25.9% (GFT) of the cases.
